Toll booth robbery attempt foiled by worker carrying gun
WTOV, Steubenville, OH

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio — One man has been taken into custody after police say he attempted to rob the Newell (WV)  toll bridge.

Though he came in expecting to make off with money, his attempt didn't go as planned.

The Newell bridge is a common source of travel for people every day, bringing traffic from Newell and East Liverpool. Early Wednesday morning, police say one man tried to take money from a toll worker at the bridge's toll station on the Ohio side.

"He had actually startled the toll taker when he came in,” said Captain Darin Morgan, East Liverpool Police Department. “The toll taker said 'you shouldn't sneak up on me like that.' The guy had his finger in his pocket simulating a gun and he told the toll taker 'give me all of your money.'"

But the man was in for a surprise. Though he wasn't carrying a gun, the toll taker was.

“The toll taker is a concealed carry permit holder,” Morgan said. “He showed his gun to the robber and the robber fled the area without getting any money."   ... Rest of story
