Hubble Image Captures Collision of Two Spiral Galaxies
May 8, 2017 by News Staff / Source

The galaxy crash, called LEDA 18516, is located in the constellation Lepus, approximately 500 million light-years away from Earth.

Also known as IRAS 06076-2139, LEDA 18516 is composed of two separate spiral galaxies rushing past each other at about 1.2 million mph (2 million kph).

Thank you @rangerrebew . I needed to see this tonight.

I wonder what Milkdromada will look like when that happens.

This one is a keeper

And there were likely things that lived in those galaxies and experienced it up close.

That had to be pretty horrific. Our view of it is 500 million years after the fact.

There wouldn't be that much to experience.  A few star systems might get disrupted, but for most there wouldn't be any significant local effects.  Too much space between stars.

Gravity and time.

Are still not going to cause a lot of stellar disruptions.

All that space. It's like two cars colliding in an empty parking lot.

@Freya

If there would be a heaven, for me it would be the ability to travel space and time and see such things, as well as a giant answer key.

Jumping a few billion years into the future to see Milkdromada would be so neat.  And to see all the unimaginable things out there in this vast universe...

I like your idea of heaven. But you left out the puppies and the kittens,  :(

@Suppressed

I'd also love to have a coffee with Einstein. My folks met him once. Of course it was way before I was born.

Oh, @Freya, puppies and kittens are a given!

Though I have to admit, there are some kittehs whose place in heaven I must question...  ^-^
