Bill would eliminate Michigan pistol registration mandate
« on: May 07, 2017, 02:00:18 pm »
LANSING, MI -- Michiganders would no longer have to register pistols with the state under a bill introduced last week by Rep. Lee Chatfield, R-Levering.

Under current law, a person cannot purchase, carry, possess, or transport a pistol in Michigan without first having obtained a license for it.

Chatfield's house bill 4554 would make that optional, and eliminate the $250 fine for not registering. It would also allow people who have already registered to request the Michigan State Police remove their information from the registry.

"There is no need for state government to maintain an exhaustive list of law-abiding citizens who legally purchase pistols," Chatfield said in a press release.

Now we just need to do away with concealed carry permits.

Now we just need to do away with concealed carry permits.

One step at a time. But certainly one in the right direction.

In my state, we have never had to register our pistols, and we just recently did away with concealed carry permits entirely.  Of course, there are now regular gun battles in the streets Of New Hampshire, just like the gun control lobby warned us there would be... oh, wait. That's not happening, either.
I'm sure the Bloomberg Bullies will now gladly admit that they were wrong... /sarc   22222frying pan
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

We've got a screwy patchwork of laws to deal with.

You can open carry in MI without a permit but only a concealed carry permit holder can carry in a school but they must carry openly to do so.
