Face of Defense: Navy Officer’s Career Follows Unusual Path

By Donna M Cipolloni, Naval Air Station Patuxent River

NAVAL AIR STATION PATUXENT RIVER, Md., April 28, 2017 — Navy Lt. Adam Patterson’s military career hasn’t followed what most people might call the “usual” path. He’s experienced an evolution of sorts, emerging from the sea and taking to the air by first starting as a submariner and later transitioning to an aviator.

In 1996, as he was completing high school and considering his next step, Patterson took the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery test and scored in the 99th percentile. Military recruiters came knocking.
