This Is War

Republicans never have been particularly good at the culture war. Sure, they won battles here and there. But even most of those victories turned into losses through court decisions anyway.

Now we’re in the midst of the ultimate battle in the culture war – the battle for the First Amendment – and if Republicans don’t recognize this is a war and fight like their existence depends on victory, nothing else will matter.

War it is and we had damned well better get in the fight!

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Committing violence while part of an organized 'protest', wearing masks/hoods shall be deemed a mortal threat and dealt with accordingly.

Problem is that we have too many Quislings who place a higher priority on mocking Trump for his tweets.

Most of us here have been enemies of the state as it is, so I'd be careful with that extreme prejudice stuff.

Committing violent acts, to person or property, is illegal in any case. Illegal but not much punished in some cases.

No, but focusing more on Trump saying stupid stuff than on the real fascists on the left silencing free speech is.

The meme is set.  Article and professors opining on the insistence that only THEIR speech is Constitutionally protected and that any speech that is deemed harmful to minority groups should be banned and does not have any Constitutional protections.  The numbers of people who agree with that imbecility on social media is astounding - echoing the childish sentiment that saying anything that hurts someone else's feelings is criminal, while they are using f-bombs and advocating southern Whites are an offensive blight of intolerance that should be exterminated.

The GOP is the Stupid Party for a reason.   Republicans always ends up doing what the Democrats want, either because their idiocies trump common sense - and also because the leadership of the Republican Party WANTS the same thing the Left wants: Big Government Statism.  Call it Deep State if you like.

And Big Government Statism does not tolerate dissent - from either side.  Just ask Mitch "Punch-You-In-The-Mouth" McConnell.

We have already seen the GOP cancel their appearances  at parades, speaking events and rallies to appease these antifa scum.  I imagine most of them will sit and do nothing and make meaningless sound bytes about how speech must be protected but violence is not the answer and that will be the be all, end all of what the GOP has to say and do about the Putsch the radical Marxists are attempting to foster.

As to Trump and his juvenile tweets and being on all four sides of an issue within the space of an hour.... criticism of bad leadership is our birthright.  I frankly don't give a crap that people don;t like it and only want our attentions focused on the Thug Left.

The Thug Left is less a direct threat to me than the Combover in the White House.

I disagree.  If that were true, ignoring the current political reality (ie GOP controls all three branches)..... there would already be a plethora of really bad-for-our-freedoms legislation passed and on the books enacted and passed by leftists and signed by the combover by now.  That hasn't happened.

If you can point to one law Trump has signed that is a direct threat to our freedom and security, I might reconsider my stance.

That's the attitude to which I was referring.  I believe it reinforces/supports the speech-suppressing element of the thug left.

Frankly, for all his huge flaws, one of Trump's biggest virtues has been flushing those statist cockroaches into the open where they can no longer be ignored.  A more well-mannered/better-spoken Republican may not have done that.

You're exactly right, Major.  We can't do everything instantly, so we have to prioritize.  And the current leftist assault on the natural rights of anyone who isn't one of them has to take first priority.  I for one will refuse to be silenced or intimidated if I'm ever challenged for speaking my mind.  And if they want to resort to physical violence, then I say, bring it, son.

Well if you people want to ascribe to the Thug Left, power they do not have and insist they are a greater threat to your liberties than the White House actually is - who am I to disturb your Normalcy Bias?

The Thug Left has no power to do anything but threaten and intimidate.

The White House - has power they do not.

Well that is where your knee-jerk assumptions are... well knee-jerkedly wrong.

I don't HATE Trump (Nor even despise him like I did Obama) - I'm simply totally indifferent to him.  I did not expect anything positive to come out from his regime, so anything he does that is of benefit to liberty outside of rhetoric and a need to feed his ego is a surprise and a plus.  The stuff he does to damage Conservatism and liberty - to be expected from a lifelong NY liberal Democrat.

As to being blind, the greater clear and present danger from any infringement on my liberties is going to come from Congress, the Courts or the White House - not from a bunch of masked Marxist thugs in academia and the media.

As to them being a threat to my person, well, that is a different issue - and - like rabid dogs, they should be put down by those they prey upon since lawlessness and what is legal is now arbitrary thanks to Obama and a useless GOP.

Yup.
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

I think you said it about right.

I will go further, and state outright that NO OTHER candidate could have shifted the direction of the administrative branch and moved policy as has Mr. Trump.

Not Ted Cruz.
Not ANY of them.

Who here believes we would have gotten a Justice Gorsuch from Marco Rubio?

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
