Remember, if one makes blanket statements like Europe (Western Europe in this case which mostly means France and Germany and whatever other countries you choose to include) is more left-wing and liberal, Germany has more conservative abortion laws than the US, so does France.
Abortion in Germany is permitted in the first trimester upon condition of mandatory counseling, and later in pregnancy in cases of medical necessity. In both cases a waiting period of 3 days is required. The counseling, called Schwangerschaftskonfliktberatung ("pregnancy-conflict counseling"), must take place at a state-approved centre, which afterwards gives the applicant a Beratungsschein ("certificate of counseling").
As of 2010, the abortion rate was 6.1 abortions per 1000 women aged 15–44 years.[1]

Lower rate of abortion too; so there is your liberal Europe. Much more strict than our US laws; though obviously, because wikipedia says it, it doesn't make it true but I do understand the phenomenon of later terms abortions are more rare in Europe.
Gay pride parades, they sure look like they can be more bold and brash in the US than in Western Europe as well.
