Hollywood writers vote to strike but will they?

A writer's strike looms after Writers Guild of America members authorized a strike against the Hollywood studios, should the studios not meet their demands, according to CNN and Variety.

Late Monday, Variety reported that 96 percent of the guild's membership authorized a strike, largely a formality before the WGA and major studios return to the bargaining table Tuesday.

Less than a week remains before their existing contract expires on May 1. If they can't come to terms, Hollywood could face a work stoppage reminiscent of the bruising three-month 2007 Writer's Guild strike.

No kidding! I thought they just dug up old cartoons and did remakes.

The last time they struck was in late fall, toward the beginning/middle of the season. It took a few weeks to burn off the episodes written. It had a pretty big dent on people's viewing habits; a lot of people just stopped watching. Even American Idol (then the most popular show on TV) was hurt, even though it wasn't affected because it didn't use writers.

This time around, though, they chose to strike in May. That's the end of the TV season, when most shows are already going into reruns anyway. The season finales are already written. If they wanted to pick the worst time to go on strike, that's it.

I think they should go ahead and strike.  It would improve the collective IQ of Hollywood tremendously.

I remember the old joke from way back when that one hundred chimpanzees typing on typewriters could eventually come up with something decent. Well, we now have a situation where it seems one hundred chimpanzees i.e. morons do most of the writing for tv and film.  No loss if they go on strike.

I think that's an accurate assessment, Myrle.

It's even more fun when you have that thing that edits out the cusswords and leaves silence. I think those......should get their.......kicked. (I wanna buy a noun!)
A lot of it just seems gratuitous. The movie Deadpool is a shining example.

So here's yet another rehashed plot featuring spoiled, unlikeable characters who complain about the unfairness of life before making one more poor decision that will end in disappointment.

"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn
