Excavators get stuck in Lake Michigan while removing tree
« on: April 25, 2017, 01:39:05 am »
GRAND HAVEN, MI - Two pieces of heavy equipment got stuck in Lake Michigan around 1 p.m. on Monday, April 24, forcing Grand Haven State Park to close to the public due to leaking oil from the machine.

Grand Haven Department of Public Safety Chief Jeff Hawke said the operator was attempting to pull a tree out of the water with the front bucket of the machine when it lost traction in the sand beneath and got stuck in the water. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is currently working on a restoration project on the beach, which is why there is heavy machinery in the park.

A second piece of machinery was also stuck in the water, but Hawke was unable to give an explanation at the scene.
