France faces its own EU referendum as far-right leader Marine Le Pen, who supports an exit, and Europhile Emmanuel Macron split the first-round vote to go head to head in presidential elections
Daily Mail/UK, Apr 23, 2017

French centrist Emmanuel Macron has come out on top in the first round of France's presidential election with far right leader Marine Le Pen in second place, which means both have qualified for the May 7 runoff vote, pollsters projections from partial results showed on Sunday.

Macron won 23.7 percent of the vote and Le Pen 21.7 percent, an Ipsos/Sopra Steria estimate showed.

Former favourite Francois Fillon got only 19.5 per cent, while communist-backed firebrand Jean-Luc Melanchon got 19.5 per cent of the vote.

Earlier this evening, Le Pen and her supporters were celebrating the projection results in the northern town of Henin-Beaumont, 120 miles north of Paris.

The far right leader had security authorities on high alert, with rioting expected across the country in protest due to her election success.

More than 50,000 police and gendarmes were deployed to the 66,000 polling stations for Sunday's election, which comes after Thursday's deadly attack on the Champs-Elysees in which a police officer and a gunman were slain.

I don't think a thread about the French Election today is the best place to re-litigate the Trump War.  If I started it, then my bad.

TFL has Macron and le Pen almost even, per the BBC: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-europe-39683594

Well, unless there is a surprise upset as the city votes start coming in, the runoff is Macron/le Pen, and le Pen is going to lose by around 10 points.

I just read that The exit projections are based on vote counts in select constituencies, then extrapolated nationwide. If Le Pen and Macron's leads hold, it would be the first time in modern French history that no major-party candidate has advanced.

Protesters have taken to the streets of Paris to hold a rally called “night of the barricades” after the first round of voting in France’s presidential election on Sunday April 23.

...hmmm...from what I have quickly read it seems they have a choice between a liberal and a socialist...don't see a whole lot of difference between the Le Pen and Macron other than their stance on open borders.

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

According to that source, she leads by less than one percent.

BTW Le Pen is NOT a Holocaust denier, as has been falsely claimed. She merely said the French nation did not bear responsibility for the roundup by Vichy, puppets of the Nazis.

Yet the irony is she signed on to the Havana Charter for international economy which is about as globalist as you get (global economic agreement that makes the IMF and ITO seem small.)

Of course, some of the biggest promoters of their own international empire painted themselves as nationalistic patriots.

Le Pen is best for France today, given that the Islamic terrorist invasion is the single most important subject.

Fail with that one, and you have no nation to split hairs over.

(Of course I don't expect understanding, much  less agreement here; but will point out that "here" has gotten almost everything wrong during the past year)

The frogs are starting a #NeverTrump  style campaign against Le Pen.   Looks like some of the posters here are charter members of movement and are lending their expertise on how well it worked inthe last election.
