Yet the irony is she signed on to the Havana Charter for international economy which is about as globalist as you get (global economic agreement that makes the IMF and ITO seem small.)

Of course, some of the biggest promoters of their own international empire painted themselves as nationalistic patriots.

I've seen that Movie too, without Sub-Titles.
No government in the 12,000 years of modern mankind history has led its people into anything but the history books with a simple lesson, don't let this happen to you.

Russia stands by Le Pen
Posted at 0:19

The chairman of the foreign relations committee of the Russian Lower House, Konstantin Kosachev, voiced support for Marine Le Pen in a Facebook post. Hope dies last, he says.

@EC , You're closer to the firing line.  How you you think le Pen's voters count out?  How much of that is because of another famous le Pen, and how much is because people are pissed about the Islamists and just want somebody to shut off the flow of terrorism?

Some of her support is certainly baked in from her old man. The French have long memories. Most of it is recent and as a direct result of the various terrorist attacks, as well as the bimonthly unrest in the cities (the bimonthly unrest of the farmers and the annual tantrum of the air traffic controllers is just a part of life). Still more is due to the influx of refugees into what is still a very insular nation.

Without the terrorist attacks AND the refugee problem, her showing would have been about 7% - 9%

Notice that there is only .5% difference between Le Pen and the Squish.

NOT the 2% difference that the other Media outlets have been reporting.

I, too, would like to see Le Pen to win.

I've said it before most of the ne'ertrumpers arrived here (after being run out of TOS), and I'll repeat:

The ONLY political faction that will ever make an attempt to confront and expel islam from Western Europe are those considered to be generally of the far right.

Le Pen hails from that spectrum, even though she makes noises to soothe the inner socialists that the French are (and have been since "Liberté, égalité, fraternité").

I don't really expect Le Pen to win -- this time.

But four more years of doing essentially nothing against islam's putsch in France is probably going to produce a different result NEXT time...

That we can. @Freya

From the France 24 link above, and just to finish off the thread:

The leaders of France's battered Socialist Party have been gathering for a crisis meeting. Their secretary-general, Jean-Christophe Cambadélis, says they have "unanimously" agreed to back Macron in the second round, which is no surprise.

It's unlikely they'll agree on much else though, with critics of humbled presidential candidate Benoît Hamon (who scored just over 6%) likely to seize the opportunity to blast his left-wing lurch. Hamon's backers, meanwhile, will be eager to settle scores with those who betrayed the party's nominee by backing Macron ahead of the first round.

What, if anything, is left of the once mighty Socialists by the June parliamentary polls will be one of the big questions over the coming weeks.

Barack Obama Caught Meddling in French Election
By Onan Coca May 5, 2017

Uh-oh. Another Presidential American has just been accused of meddling in foreign affairs, but this time there is definitive proof of his malfeasance.

No, i’m not talking about President Trump… it was former President Obama! (Gasp!) The former president just announced, publicly, that he was supporting Emmanuel Macron in the race for the French presidency.

Awaken, moribund thread. The day is at hand!

French Presidential Election day.

French elections: Voters decide between Le Pen and Macron

French voters are choosing their next president after an unpredictable campaign that has divided the country.

The second round contest pits centrist Emmanuel Macron, a 39-year-old former investment banker, against the far-right nationalist Marine Le Pen, 48.

Citizens in some overseas territories and many French expats abroad have begun voting.

The polls opened in metropolitan France at 08:00 local time (06:00 GMT) on Sunday and close at 19:00 (17:00 GMT).

Polling stations will remain open in some big cities until 20:00 local time (18:00 GMT), with early estimates of the result due to be reported immediately after they close.

The two candidates, who topped a field of 11 presidential hopefuls in the first round election on 23 April, have offered voters starkly different visions of France.

I think we might be polled out.....

But it will be interesting.

And the liveblog from France 24, who'll keep more on top of things.

Live: Macron and Le Pen face off in French presidential run-off

French voters on Sunday began casting ballots in the presidential run-off between independent centrist Emmanuel Macron and far-right leader Marine Le Pen. Follow FRANCE 24’s live blog below for all the latest Election Day news.

Voting stations opened at 8am (6am GMT) in mainland France Sunday, and most close at 7pm, with those in some large cities remaining open until 8pm. Voters overseas began voting Saturday.

A first estimate of the results will be published around 8pm.

It is a historic election by several measures: both candidates are from parties outside the political mainstream. It follows an unprecedented campaign marked by scandal and repeated surprises.

If elected, Macron, 39, would be the youngest president of France's Fifth Republic. Marine Le Pen, 48, would be the first female president.

France's 47 million voters will choose between radically different platforms: the free-trade, pro-EU policies of Macron's En Marche! (Forward!) party, and the protectionist nationalism of Le Pen's National Front.

French law prohibits French media from quoting the presidential candidates or their supporters until polls close at 8pm Sunday.

More plus continual updates: http://www.france24.com/en/20170507-liveblog-live-france-presidential-election-macron-le-pen-second-round-run-off

The bit I bolded is important. The first thing you are going to hear from Macron or le Pen or any of their campaign today is when one gives their concession speech, likely around midnight Paris time (18:00 EDT).

... This election marks a new phase in French politics with for the first time neither of the main parties - the socialists and the republicans - having a candidate in the run-off.

The two candidates have offered voters starkly different visions of France.

Mr Macron, a liberal centrist, is pro-business and a strong supporter of the European Union (EU), while Ms Le Pen campaigned on a France-first, anti-immigration programme.

She wants France to abandon the euro in the domestic economy, and hold a referendum on France's EU membership.

Polls suggest Mr Macron will win the vote, but analysts have said high abstention rates could damage his chances.

By noon, the turnout was lower than that of the 2012 elections (30.7%) and the 2007 elections (34.11%) at the same point. ...

Associated Press
Quote
PARIS (AP) — The Latest on France’s presidential runoff between centrist Emmanuel Macron and far-right candidate Marine Le Pen (all times local):

1:20 p.m.

Emmanuel Macron’s campaign press office says the courtyard outside the Louvre museum where the centrist French presidential candidate has planned to celebrate election night has been evacuated because of a security alert.

Campaign spokeswoman Pauline Calmes told The Associated Press that the Esplanade du Louvre, in downtown Paris, was evacuated on Sunday as a precaution. She did not specify the nature of the threat, but says police ordered the evacuation.

Macron picked the dignified internal courtyard of the renowned palace-turned-museum as the location for his celebration party.

The Louvre already was being heavily guarded after an extremist attacker targeted soldiers near the museum during the presidential campaign.
