The Case Against Media ‘Objectivity’

Who really believed in the objectivity of journalists? As students we used to debate which was preferable: the Western system of arbitrary rich men owning newspapers, motivated by self-interest and the flow of advertising in determining what sells and what is news, or the communist system of a group of party ideologues deciding what should be published for the public good in Pravda or Izvestia? We knew perfectly well that each side was doctoring the news one way or another.

Well yes, the media has never been completely objective. That is why it is necessary for an intelligent person to peruse numerous "news" outlets and make their own determination about things. What else is new?  *****rollingeyes*****

That's why the idiots who talk about fighting the media are fooling themselves if they think it will actually achieve anything. Bias is part of human nature and won't be defeated.

Thomas Jefferson heaped equal derision on the public and press alike. He went so far as to say that the public that desired and buys the trash in the press are no different than the authors.
