Video shows early birds hitting the Comal River tube chute weeks before season officially opens

Memorial Day, the official kickoff to tubing season, is weeks away, but as warmer temperatures near, Texans appear to be ready more than ever to hit the river.

A seemingly plain Facebook video post from Rockin' R River Rides of tubers floating the Comal River in New Braunfels Friday has been shared more than 2,500 times and is filled with a steady stream of comments from people who can't wait to hit the water.
 
 "I'm ready," one commenter said.

Another said: "That does look like fun!"
 
Although April has not yet ended, Texans could get out to the river sooner than later as temperatures heat up in the Central Texas area.

Eric Platt, National Weather Service meteorologist, told mySA.com San Antonio and the New Braunfels-area will see highs in the 90s this week.

Temperatures are expected to be in the mid-80s to 90s throughout the week and into the weekend, with a slight chance of rain Saturday night, he said.

On Saturday night, temperatures could drop to 60 degrees with a 30 percent chance for rain.

"It is still springtime," he said, adding rain and cold fronts are more likely in the spring compared to summer.

The Comal River may be the shortest river in the world, check it out in the Guinness Book of World Records. Just under 3 miles in length, the river begins and ends near downtown New Braunfels. The source of the Comal River begins from Comal Springs, which consists of many small springs located in and around Landa Park and Landa Lake. The springs form the Comal River, which eventually joins the Guadalupe River in the heart of downtown New Braunfels. The Comal River is popular for tubing and swimming. The Comal River features one of the largest collections of springs in Texas with an approximate 8 million gallons of water consistently flowing out of the springs every hour. The water is pure and sparkling clear and maintains a relatively constant temperature of about 72 degrees all year. Many local residents swim in the Comal River year round.
