A really neat thing celebrating a neglected yet very competent military.One hundred years ago today, on a cold and snowy Easter Monday, the Battle of Vimy Ridge — one of the first battles in the larger, British-led Battle of Arras and a key victory for Canada as a nation — began.
Vimy has been called Canada’s coming-of-age moment, an event in which our soldiers made great sacrifices in the pursuit of hard-fought victory.
“The idea of Vimy has come to signify Canadian martial strength and unity of purpose. The capture of the seemingly impregnable ridge by Canadians from all regions is a built-in unity story.”
