The Tass and Interfax agencies reported a blast at the Sennaya Ploshchad metro station, which left a number of victims.

Images posted on social media showed a train carriage with its doors blown out and damage inside.

MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. An explosion struck a metro station in Russia’s second-largest city St. Petersburg, leaving several people injured, a local law enforcement source told TASS on Monday.

"A blast occurred at Sennaya Ploshchad metro station, several people have been injured," the source said, adding that the station has been overtaken by smoke.

Evacuation is under way at a blast-hit subway station. Seven metro stations in the city have been closed following the blast, according to a source.

A spokesman for the regional department of Russia’s Emergencies Ministry said it was checking reports on the smoke in the metro. "There is a complaint about the smoke, the staff members are going to the scene," he said.

Again from the TASS link:

Quote
Evacuation of people from St. Petersburg’s metro after an explosion is now over, Andrei Przhezdomsky, a spokesman for the National Anti-terrorist Committee (NAC), told the Rossiya-24 television channel.

"So far, we say it was an unidentified explosive device as investigators and the Federal Security Service’s bomb specialists are to establish the exact cause of this explosion… Evacuation is over, medical assistance is offered to those hurt," he said.

"All necessary measures are being taken to ensure people’s security. We will do our best to prevent more possible explosions and other criminal actions," he pledged.

Seven metro stations in the city have been closed following the blast

For the Russian people indeed.

Too bad Putin wasn't on the train considering his arming the Taliban in Afghanistan.

From the BBC link (first post):

Quote
Initial reports suggested there had been two explosions, one at each of the two stations.

At least 50 people have been reported injured, and a number of children were among those hurt.

Andrei Przhezdomsky, the head of the Russian National Anti-Terrorist Committee, said it was caused by "an unidentified explosive device" but that the exact cause had yet to be determined.

However, a spokesman for Russia's prosecutor general said the explosion was "a terrorist act".

President Putin was in St Petersburg earlier on Monday but is now outside the city, his spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"I have already spoken to the head of our special services, they are working to ascertain the cause," he said, at a meeting with Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko.

The entire St Petersburg underground network has now been shut down, and Moscow metro officials said they were introducing extra security measures as a result.

I'm sticking to these two sites for now, as the BBC only reports multiple source confirmed facts and TASS will understate the situation (invariably in favor of the government). The Russian language general press is in full on disaster mode - couple of them are putting CNN's over-reactions to events to shame.

Could have been the Russian Government/KGB themselves who did this.

I'll stick with reading reports like the Daily Mail; nice to know things now, not six hours from now and no-holds barred reporting at that. Of course, in using the DM, one acknowledges they have made reporting errors as well.

Well, we knew it wasn't a suicide bomber from the start - the inside of the carriage is still white, not red.

Chechnya most likely. Committing terrorist acts in Russia is idiocy. They don't have the hand-wringing cucks like we have in the US. They just lay waste to you.

Reichstag fires went out with the Reichstag. Chechnya has plenty of reasons to hate Russia and the Russians hate them as well.

Could be high up in the Russian government,

We know they have been accused of bombing there own people, we know they are having an election some time soon and imprisoned their opposition candidate Navalny.

Vaious Russian language outlets are blaming Chechens - I'm seeing no evidence from them beyond "they've done it before" though. Not even "anonymous sources." Not saying they're wrong - my own bet would be ex-ISIS Chechens or Khazaks - but nothing even vaguely authoritative is being offered.

Yes, of course Chechens are the first thought.  Need more facts though.

Just last week CENTCOM said that they believe Russia is arming the Taliban in Afghanistan. The only reason they would do it is to kill Americans, our allies and prevent the stabilization of Afghanistan.

Classic cold war stuff.

People who believe Putin is some great defender of Christianity in the world are being played like flounders.
