Verizon to Launch a Sling TV Competitor This Summer
« on: March 31, 2017, 10:41:35 pm »

First this week we learned that Comcast is planning to launch a live TV streaming service this year. Now it is reported that Verizon is also planning to launch a live TV streaming service this summer.

Bloomberg reported yesterday that Verizon Communications Inc. has been securing streaming rights from television network owners for a nationwide launch of a live online TV service, according to people familiar with the matter.

Verizon’s service is aimed to take on their main competitors Dish and AT&T with their Sling TV and DIRECTV NOW streaming service and even PlayStation Vue. The live, over-the-internet TV service would be a first for Verizon — separate from go90, a YouTube-like streaming-video service aimed at teens — and also independent of its FiOS home TV offer, accourding to Bloomberg’s sources.

I just fully cut the cable. No cable TV whatsoever. Nada, zip, gone. Four set-top boxes waiting pickup, by the incompetent Frontier company. I'll bet they are bleeding customers, since buying my region from Verizon.

Saving over $100 monthly, offset against $8 for Netflix, $9 for Amazon Prime, and $25 for SlingTV. We may cancel Sling, btw.

We installed rooftop antenna. Dozens and dozens of OTA channels here in greater Lost Angeles, with antennas about 35 miles away on/near Mt. Wilson.

Besides Sling, there are already other competitors, including some free bootleg versions like MTX, which I got from the "hidden" or "secret" Roku channels.

We got rid of the DirecTv and I don't miss it.. It is saving us $$$$$.

We have Sling, Hulu (I get Hulu free since I search with Bing) and Amazon Prime with a few free apps like Crackle, Tubi, and Pluto TV.  We have a antenna, but we don't use it.

We might get Hulu Live if it is good as they say.

We have the Amazon Fire TV box love it.  Our big mistake was to get a Smart Tv. Not Smart.
