Lead singer Timothy Wilson passed away this week. We saw him about 3 years ago doing the Frankie Lymon part with The Teenagers, something he'd done for several years...

Well, since I found a terrific deal in which I could buy it and pay it off in twelve months,
I'm taking the plunge---buying a vibraphone and going to teach myself to play it as
my second instrument. I love the guitar and I always will, but I've been itching to play
vibes for a long while and now I'll get the chance!

Some of my favourite vibes players . . .

Cal Tjader, "Afro Blue"

Bobby Hutcherson, "Patterns"

Milt Jackson & John Coltrane, "The Late Late Blues"

Milt Jackson, "Bags' New Groove"

Boy, my eyes feel a dozen times better since basically missing a day being on the computer. I guess the computer screen can really wear them out. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

This riff has been going through my head for the last 24 hours.

I like that song "Sweet Cherry Wine" by Tommy James and.... another birthday boy...

Some fine musicians, songwriters and performers here, it's

Willie Nelson's birthday,  before Willie hit pay dirt as a performer, i.e. the Red Headed Stranger, he was a songwriter,  he pushed his trade in Nashville; this personally, is one I love and it still reflects the golden era of country music. Of course, Willie wrote Crazy, made famous by Patsy Cline, that too is largely from this era. Probably a few years before this one. I was looking at some country charts from the 1960s, there were number 1s from artists I had no idea who they were and songs I was not familiar with.  That leads me to believe there are not that many "real" classics.

Other birthdays:

Lonnie Donegan,  April Stevens, half of April and Nino who sing "Deep Purple";
Quote
1945, Born on this day, Tammi Terrell, singer, who died of a brain tumour on March 16th 1970 after collapsing into Marvin Gaye's arms on stage during a duet of ‘That’s All You Need To Get By’. Terrall had undergone eight brain operations in 18 months. She had had hits with Marvin Gaye, including the 1967 US No.5 ‘Your Precious Love’.

Poor Tammi Terrel, she really had a hard time.

And others per the link above.

Here's the Duke with a centenary girl . . .

Ella Fitzgerald with Duke Ellington and His Orchestra, "Caravan"

. . . from the only one of her famous Song Book series on which she actually got to perform with the composer
himself.

James estimates the company owed him $30–40 million in royalties he never received.[4][12] Roulette was a front for organized crime, also functioning as a money laundering operation. In the early 1970s, Levy was at the wrong end of a mob war[clarification needed]. James had to leave New York for a while to avoid a mob hit, which explained[how?] why he recorded an album in Nashville in 1972. He did not feel comfortable writing his book until all those deeply involved with the record company had died.[4] It was only after Roulette Records and Levy's Big Seven Music publishing company were sold (the record company to an EMI and Rhino Records partnership, the music publishing company to Windswept Pacific Music which was later sold to EMI) that James began to receive large royalty checks from sales of his records.[

James' wikipedia biography alone is interesting. Wow, including the bit about their first hit, "hanky panky".

What Wiki left out: Before "Hanky Panky" caught on nationally, there might have been a small bidding war for Tommy James
and the Shondells, with Atlantic Records playing heavily for them---until Morris Levy strongarmed them and any other label
away from the group once he landed the distribution for "Hanky Panky."

High viewership rockabilly, couldn't find the song I liked from some time ago, this is good.   May be from Spain originally.

This is very good music performed live and if someone didn't tell you, you probably wouldn't have a clue that they are actually from Germany, this is live in Melide, in Switzerland.  A half hour is too much time I know to devote to listening to something unless one is wired but they are good performers nonetheless.
