Little birthday roundup, I can't do this daily but...

Born on this day, Kate Pierson, vocals, The B-52's, (1990 UK No.2 & US No.3 single 'Love Shack').

Paul "Ace" Frehley, KISS, Sheena Eastwood,  today would have been the birthday of Cuba Gooding Sr. Main Ingredient.

To me, I started writing this yesterday, the riffs in Duane Eddy's "Because they are Young" and the "Surfin' Safari" song which was the matchgame theme, sound similar. But maybe that is just me.... you know.

Was it just discussed yesterday about the Modern Jazz Quartet?

Today is the birthday of Modern Jazz Quartet drummer, Connie Kay, of Maxine Brown of the Browns (3 bells which is the English version of a French song per wikipedia) and soul singer Ann Peebles.

@corbe

That reminds me, theme-wise at least some of "Not Dark Yet" by Dylan and in fact, Trying to get to heaven" by him. Youtube and I'm sure, Dylan's lawyers have made it difficult to find quite a few of his original studio recordings on youtube. Dylan spent some time of his teenage years in Gallup New Mexico. I've never found out though, what he was doing out there.  A lot of Dylan's music at youtube are live recordings; kind of unfair to the fans that know his original works.  Selfish? I don't know.

   Interesting @TomSea
Unaware of the Dylan/New Mexico connection, I thought he grew up in Hibbings, Minnesota, I remember he had a bit part and the Soundtrack in that Billy the Kid movie back in the early 70's with Kristofferson and Coburn, but I think that was filmed in old Mexico.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Garrett_%26_Billy_the_Kid_(album)

That album has a lot of interesting instrumental work. It's an alright movie.

River Theme, I think that is the one that's a good instrumental.  I don't readily see it on youtube. It's short, so, if one is ever interested and gets a chance, it's worth it.

I'm surprised the movie isn't bigger than what it was.

Oops, I will have to read up on this but perhaps saying Dylan lived in Gallup as a teenager is a fable invented by Dylan, himself.

Quote
Apparently the rumor was started nearly 50 years ago by Dylan himself, apparently to add mystique or color to his backstory. The Gallup angle was debunked by Newsweek magazine as early as 1963, but the story never went away.

Regardless, it begs a question — why did Dylan pick Gallup as a part of his early biography? One plausible explanation:

I tried to imagine being an exchange student maybe or something.

This may be the only song by these guys I even bother to listen to. Chances are I wouldn't have listened to this one if I had known it was KISS doing it at the time.

Never had any problem listened to and watching this guy.

He was kinda intense,though.

BTW,IMHO,"The Rocky Horror Picture Show" is one of the all-time great rock and roll albums.

At least you got to see him at all.

I saw him opening for the Allman Brothers Band and the J. Geils Band on the final weekend of the Fillmore East
in New York. Bad news: it wasn't the closing night, it was the Friday night show that opened the closing
weekend. This, I believe, was King's half-hour opening on the actual final night:

Albert King, closing night at the Fillmore East, 27 June 1971
(Beware: the guy who posted this listed King as playing "Blues Power" as his second number; it's actually "Got to Be
Some Changes Made.")

The final night turned out to be, in order of appearance: King, the J. Geils Band, Edgar Winter's White Trash, Country
Joe McDonald, Mountain, the Beach Boys, and the Allman Brothers Band. Here's a treat from the Allman Brothers Band's
venue-closing set:

The Allman Brothers Band, "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed," closing
night at the Fillmore East, 27 June 1971

We are currently having an internet outage for some reason. So for the timebeing, @corbe , @EasyAce and yourself will need to work these threads. Surely, it will come back on soon but just in case. Thanks.

We got your back Tom, but it's against every moral fiber in me to close a thread at midnight and I sleep in late, you guys (+sneaky and Easy) always seem to do the heavy lifting here, I am just a figurehead on the marque, only good people know about this place.
