I believe you have to have a medical doctor license, not a specific license for plastic surgery.

You should familiarize yourself with the history of plastic surgery. It was legal to do these surgeries with any medical license not that long ago. That means that podiatrists could do face lifts.

A license has been required to practice medicine for well over a hundred years.  The push started in 1847 as an effort to reduce the deaths caused by quacks.

A podiatrists is an Medical Doctor.  And while a license to perform plastic surgery hasn't been required since 1847 a license has been required to perform any kind of surgery for a long long time.

Additionally the use of the word surgeon is regulated by law.

An MD is generally speaking a license to practice medicine.  Of course the actual license comes from the State but you can't get the license without an MD.

Silicone implants are dangerous. Silicone injected directly is at the least negligent homicide.

My SIL had some silicone implants. One of them got to leaking. She is dead.

I used the tube silicone today to stick a wall cap on a logo partition for the local Toyota dealership we are doing some stuff for. We use it quite a bit in the cabinet shop. Installs. Hey guys, scuttlebutt is too much silicone exposure makes you go limp.

Anyone with an MD and a license to practice medicine will quickly lose that license for doing procedures they were not trained to do.  And no one will get privileges at a hospital or surgery center without appropriate training and the documentation that they passed the training.

Nope. They can do procedures limited to the foot at hospitals but if the patient stays overnight they require an MD to admit and monitor the patient.  They can consult on hospitalized patients but have no admitting privileges

So it is a specialized training that isn't nearly as broad as is required to be an MD? Do the have a doctorate degree?

I believe a doctor of podiatry but I don't know what it actually takes to get the degree.  They only study the foot.  They can do fellowship training to be able to do procedures as far up as the ankle, but that still doesn't get them admitting privileges at a hospital.
