Richard Hammond was reportedly badly injured when he came off a motorbike while filming in Mozambique.

Hammond is said to have been knocked out in the accident, which took place when he was recording scenes for Amazon's The Grand Tour, the successor to Top Gear.

The incident comes over a decade after the television presenter was nearly killed in a 288mph crash at an airfield in a stunt for the BBC programme.

The accident in September 2006 saw his jet-powered drag-racing car flip over, causing him serious head injuries. He spent five weeks in hospital after the crash.

Hammond, 47, was said not to have needed hospital treatment after the latest accident, which took place in a remote part of the African country.

His co-presenter Jeremy Clarkson told the Sun: "He really did hurt himself quite badly."

  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
