CBS has officially given a series order for “The Big Bang Theory” spinoff “Young Sheldon,” Variety has learned. The half-hour single cam, currently with an unspecified number of episodes ordered, will premiere in the 2017-18 season.

Created by Chuck Lorre and Steven Molaro, the series follows “The Big Bang Theory’s” Sheldon Cooper at age 9, living with his family in East Texas and going to high school.....

And Sheldon's mom was a religious nutcase the best I recall.  Hope they don't take the Christian bashing angle.......they will.....

So they'll hire some kid to play Sheldon at age nine?  Not interested.  I'd rather see another sitcom with Parsons in it or an extension of The Big Bang Theory.

I don't believe Parsons is in it, just a writer. My friend's son is going to play his older brother.

Good for him.  And who knows?  With the same writers, it could be another huge hit.  All the best for your friend and his son.

Don't worry.  if it gets past 8 episodes it will be a miracle.

It's Hollyweird, even the kids have to go through the casting couch

I haven't seen this kid in anything, so will be interesting to see him act.

He's in some HBO show that he's probably not allowed to watch at home.

I'll watch it for one or two episodes.

Out of curiosity.

Or boredom.

Spin offs seldom have what the Originals had that made them successful. It doesn't mean that they won't be a success just that most aren't.

I like Better Call Saul but its no Breaking Bad despite the return of some notables like Mike and Gus.

Back in the 70s you had Rhoda which was a successful spin off of Mary Tyler Moore, The Jeffersons which was All in the family, i think Good Times was a spin off of something , Maude, again All in the Family. And Phyllis which was another spin off from MTM.

Those spin offs were successful. But again, that was the 70s.

Of those I think only Maude and the Jeffersons matched the success of the originals. The Jeffersons may have surpassed the success of all in the family.

Star Trek is an oddball in the sense that virtually every spin off over the years has had a longer run than the original with the possible exception of Star Trek Explorer.

Back in the 70s most families had 3 to 5 channels available on TV. Most people watched whatever was on, because that's all there was.
It's a different world today. The odds of some obscure 'been done before' spinoff making it today in the current cable/streaming entertainment market are not very good. But, you never know.

In reality there wasn't much selection back then.  Plus I think people where kinda lazy in changing the channel.

I think we should get a break on the lazy claim.  We had 5 channels.  3 were easy to change between.  But to get the other 2, I had to go outside and put a pipe wrench on the antenna support to turn it ~60 degrees.  Wasn't just a lack of a remote that sometimes caused us to leave the channel unchanged.  Sometimes it was a darn storm or 15 degrees outside.

Half the shows were a spinoffs. Love American Style spun off Happy Days which spun off Laverne and Shirley and Mork and Mindy and Joanie loves Chachi. Cannon spun off Barnaby Jones. 6 Million Dollar Man begat The Bionic Woman. MTM also begat Lou Grant. Different Strokes Begat The Facts of Life. Andy Griffith begat Gomer Pyle, Mayberry RFD and some other corn shucking nonsense. Petty Coat Junction spun off Grean Acres.

BTW, Maude spun off Good Times. I think the fat black woman was Maudes maid or some silly shit.

This will probably be one of the first pictures of the new and old cast together. Taken by my friend today on set. Her son is the one next to Parsons.
