Sniper shortage: Too many Marines are washing out of sniper school

The Marine Corps is facing a “critical gap” of scout snipers due to the high washout rates at sniper school, so the Corps is looking at changes to how the elite sharpshooters are trained, officials said.

The graduation rate for scout snipers school for the past several years has been down significantly. An uptick in 2016 bumped the graduation rate to about 44 percent; but that remains well below the nearly 56 percent graduation rate in 2012, according to Training Command.

“The significant causes of attrition in the course are in practical application evaluations, which includes stalking, marksmanship and land navigation,” Training Command said in a statement to Marine Corps Times. “The eligibility requirements and training requirements have not been made more difficult.”

Code for "We have been ordered to lower our standards so cross-dressing twinkies and women can pass."

Since the training is the same as it was before, this just means you are accepting less-qualified people as trainees.

That right there tells you the problem. It is NOT the Marines that run the scout-sniper school or the scout-sniper Marines that are complaining about this,it is the geeks in rear commands that confuse percentages with efficiency. In schools like this increases in graduates can ONLY come from one of two sources. You either have a MUCH stricter screening selection program to determine who gets accepted in the school,or you lower your standards and pretend that is the same thing.

It ain't the Marines or the Marine leadership in the scout-sniper teams that want the standards lowered. It is the PC crowd that never handles a rifle, but are whiz-bangs at compiling files and data while sucking up to leftist politicians.

Guess what happens to Marines on Scout-Sniper teams that are populated with Marine graduates that graduated due to lowered standards and racial quotas? I can tell you. They die without completing their mission.

See? If the eligibility requirements and the training requirements haven't been made more difficult, yet more Marines are failing, the fault lies in the PC selection process.
