Boeing CEO said to be in room as Trump phoned program chief
Lockheed has faced Trump attacks over cost of F-35 contract

Trump: We Cut Approximately $600 Million From F-35

Days before taking office, President-elect Donald Trump made two surprise calls to the Air Force general managing the Pentagon’s largest weapons program, the Lockheed Martin Corp. F-35 jet.

Listening in on one of those calls was Dennis Muilenburg -- the CEO of Lockheed’s chief rival, Boeing Co.

Trump, who has repeatedly criticized the $379 billion F-35 program as “out of control,” made the highly unusual calls to Lieutenant General Chris Bogdan on Jan. 9 and Jan. 17, according to two people familiar with the matter. Muilenburg, whose company makes a fighter jet Trump has suggested might be an alternative to the F-35, was in the president-elect’s New York office for a meeting during the second call. He appeared caught off-guard but was able to listen in on the call, according to the people, who asked to remain anonymous discussing sensitive information. One of the people said the call was on speakerphone.

Defense Secretary James Mattis in a memo last month translated Trump’s tweet into action when he asked Deputy Defense Secretary Robert Work to oversee a review that “compares F-35C and F/A-18E/F operational capabilities and assesses the extent that F/A-18E/F improvements (an advanced Super Hornet) can be made in order to provide a competitive, cost effective, fighter aircraft alternative.”

This is highly irregular, to say the least.  Should they wish to pursue matter, LockMart could probably make a good case for at least the appearance of impropriety.

It was a master stroke, let's Boeing listen in on a Lockhed a$$ chewing. LOL, love it. Don't piss me off or I'll be calling you. Bet those AF-1 747s just go more affordable.

Pretty sure people have gone to jail for cozy arrangements like that....

Proprietary information isn't just about aircraft specs.

If LM discussed pricing information that is not Boeing's business to know, they could very well have some strong legal options here.
Throwing our allegiances to political parties in the long run gave away our liberty.

Indeed, Boeing got in Very Big Trouble about that very thing, back when they were competing with LockMart in the rocket business.

Trump wasn't talking to LM -- he was talking to the Air Force; however, if any sort of proprietary information was passed on without the proper agreements in place, it's actionable in court.  (Whether theywant to pursue such a course is another matter.)
