THURSDAY, Feb. 2, 2017 (HealthDay News) -- Liquid laundry detergent pods may be convenient, but young children are suffering vision-threatening burns from the chemicals inside them in increasing numbers, a new study finds.

Between 2012 and 2015, more than 1,200 preschoolers in the United States suffered eye burns from these single-use detergent pods. In 2012, only 12 such burns were reported. By 2015, that number was almost 500.

"These pods look like toys, they look like candy, and kids are finding them, playing with them, puncturing them, and the chemicals inside the pods are getting into their eyes," said lead researcher Dr. R. Sterling Haring, from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore.

Similar report a while back about kids choking on these pods.

Here's an idea:  How about keeping the kids away from laundry products or even the laundry room itself?

Whatever happened to parental responsibility and supervision?

This is why so many products carry idiotic warnings or are banned altogether. Someone is injured and immediately, it's assumed to be the product that's at fault.  This is why we have blow dryers with warning labels that read, "do not use in the shower or bathtub."  All because some twit tried to dry his hair while sitting in a tub of water and was electrocuted.  His loved ones sued and won.  Now the dryer manufacturer has to put this warning label on its product, and that warning label adds to the cost of the product.

We need judges, juries and government agencies to say, no more to ridiculous lawsuits and regulations.  If you or your child are  injured by a product through your own stupidity and irresponsibility, then too bad. You get nothing.

We used to have things called parents that kept small kids from playing with this stuff. If I had a bet, the parents Facebook posting history was high right before the injuries.
