The top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee says he's planning to reintroduce a bill that would allow the Pentagon to close excess military bases.

Rep. Adam Smith’s (D-Wash.) announcement comes after Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Jack Reed (D-R.I.), the leaders of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said they are considering the possibility of closing bases to cut spending.

“We should not be wasting hard-earned taxpayer money to maintain excess infrastructure that [the Department of Defense] has determined it does not need,” Smith said in a statement Thursday.

There probably should be more, not less. A couple dozen battalion sized joint bases with the border patrol stretched along the southern border might be good. After all, we got quite good at small combat outposts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Reminds me of the old Calvary garrisons of the early 1800s.

Its a pretty clear signal the commiecrats have run out of ideas.  They always go back to what has worked before when they hit a road block.

Doesn't help when Republicans like McCain go along with the ideas either.
