Texas Sheriff ‘Sanctuary Sally’ Set to Stop Enforcing the Law

    by BOB PRICE
    18 Jan 2017
    Austin, TX

A Texas sheriff dubbed “Sanctuary Sally” by her opponent during her election campaign, appears to be ready to live up to her campaign promise to not enforce the law regarding criminal illegal aliens.

Travis County Sheriff Sally Hernandez is expected to announce that her jail, located in Texas’ capital city, will no longer honor immigration detainers placed on criminals by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Austin American-Statesman reported Tuesday evening. The move could cost the county millions in state and local law enforcement grants.

Travis County seems to be the center of corruption and stupidity in that state.

So she was elected by voters, and those voters apparently want to reside in a sanctuary city.

The fedgov hands out big money, with strings attached.

Those strings should be put into place immediately by Congress and the Potus, to let this jurisdiction pay a heavy price for their policies.

Obama had no problem suing Arizona for enforcing the law, it's time to sue this person for disobeying the law.

I'm feeling generous today.

Give the county a month to recall this moron before cutting off all federal funds.

@Frank Cannon

In the future you can leave out the "seems to be" when you makes statements of that nature about Travis County, Texas.

I strongly suspect that she will have a sudden change of heart when Governor Abbott and the federal treasury get through talking to her!

Hope you are right, my brother, but sane reflection doesn't seem to be her strong suit.

There will be much more than mere reflection involved!  Of that you can be assured!

its my understanding ICE doesn't put holds on people for just being here illegally.   They only do it for serious crimes or people with serious criminal histories.

Doesn't require a needless, time-consuming lawsuit.  Send a federal officer to the jailhouse and charge her with a federal violation of harboring and abetting fugitives from justice, then throw her in the federal prison system awaiting trial under US Code Title 8, U.S.C. § 1324(a)

I'm sure she considers herself bravely fighting for truth and against injustice in the evil Trump administration.  A gesture like that during the 0's administration would be like "yeah, so what?"

Abbott reacted to the news swiftly. "The Governor's Office will cut funding for Travis County adopting sanctuary policies," he tweeted Friday evening. "Stiffer penalties coming."

Abbott has said he would scrap state funds for entities that adopt sanctuary policies. The Austin American-Statesman reported earlier this week that that could cost the Travis County Sheriff’s Office about $1.8 million in state money. In response to the story, Abbott tweeted he was about to “up the ante.”
