Interesting read. But its loaded with the writer's own characterizations and subjective interpretation of events. Which may reflect reality or, if Politico's treatment of Cruz in the past is any indication, it may be fiction.
Of stated a bit differently, a "made up" story to discredit Cruz.

Nobody from Cruz side, is interviewed, quoted, etc.

This is an example of Trump means, when he says the media is dishonest.

Cruz has a great future. He is still maturing, in the art of politics.

I just hope he doesn't do as so many of them do and mature out of his principles.

I'm willing to bet the "new" Ted Cruz looks just like the old Ted Cruz.  That's what I like about him.
The word is "Integrity" I believe you are trying to say.

You believe correctly.  That is exactly what I am saying.

The Trump endorsement, after all of Trump's false attacks, says everything you need to know. He had a chance to be a conscience and rejected it.

I think you had Ted Cruz on too high a pedestal @jmyrlefuller.  He is a politician, period.  Politics is the career Ted Cruz has chosen .. and in his field conscience is meaningless without influence and donors.

He intends (not wants) to be reelected in 2018 to the Senate and he intends (not wants) to be POTUS in 2021 or, if he can survive the wait, 2025.  Ted Cruz will do whatever it takes to make this happen.

Really?  He sure doesn't sound like it.  Though it may be hard to tell since the media lost all interest in him after the primaries.  What do you hear from Scott Walker lately?

Maybe.  If so, he's one of those rare ones - one with values other than self advancement.  Perhaps you're confusing him with someone else.

From my vantage point I would say that Senator Cruz is more popular than ever here in his home state. But what the heck do I know!

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Perpetually confused when it comes to anything related to Ted Cruz and she isn't alone in that either!
