Kars - A 50-year-old woman, a dual citizen of Canada and Turkey, was arrested in Turkey after she allegedly insulted Turkey’s president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on social media. Friends of the woman are concerned for her health.

Ece Heper was arrested in Kars on Dec. 30 but news of her detention only surfaced Wednesday after her lawyer, Sertac Celikkaleli, spoke with the Canadian Press. Heper had been in Turkey since mid-November.

The arrest came after Heper made several Facebook posts criticizing the Turkish president. The Windsor Star reports the woman allegedly accused Erdogan of helping ISIS in a social media post made two days before her arrest. She is also alleged to have criticized the president for jailing thousands of people, including journalists, for insulting the president.
