French president hails ‘sacrifice of the Peshmerga’
ERBIL, Kurdistan Region – After visiting the Kurdish frontline a mere 20 kilometres from Mosul, French President François Hollande saluted the “courage and self-sacrifice of the Peshmerga.”
“Here, what you do to allow France to be safe and for the local people, I congratulate you,” Hollande said in a joint press conference with Kurdish President Masoud Barzani on Monday evening.
“It would not be possible to defeat Daesh without the sacrifices of the Peshmerga.”
Hollande also pledged assistance so that displaced persons can return to their homes and stressed the need for a political solution for Mosul after the military battle “so that the residents can all live together.”
