It is alleged that Islamic State (Isis) militants have executed a Palestinian girl for supporting President Bashar al-Assad's Syrian regime, which is currently fighting the Islamist group as well as rebel factions that are seeking to topple the government.

Hadil Yassin Abu al-Madi, was a resident of al-Yarmouk district in capital Damascus, parts of which are under IS control.

The IS-led Hisba Police reportedly arrested Madi on Wednesday (28 December) on suspicion of cooperating with the Syrian regime's secret service, Mukhabarat. They produced her in front of a Sharia court in Yarmouk, which found her guilty of spying and ordered her immediate execution.

It's more complicated than we can imagine, how can ISIS actually be in control of parts of Damascus? It certainly doesn't go with the "Assad is now winning" narrative. I know it's basically guerrilla warfare but still.

This would be comparable to say, the North winning in Atlanta but still fighting the Confederacy in a DC suburb.

By the time they're done fighting in Syria, the desert sands there are going to be worth more than the rubble of their cities...
