Syria conflict: Turkey and Russia 'agree ceasefire plan'
« on: December 28, 2016, 09:56:29 am »
Turkey and Russia have agreed on the terms of a proposed ceasefire in Syria, where they back opposing sides in the civil war, Turkish state media report.

The Anadolu news agency cited an unnamed source as saying the two states were working to ensure the ceasefire would start after midnight (10:00 GMT).

"Terrorist organisations" would be excluded from the deal, the source added, without giving further details.

There was no immediate comment the Syrian government or opposition.

Russia - which has carried out an air campaign in support of President Bashar al-Assad - and Turkey - a major backer of the rebellion - announced last week that they were ready to help end the war, after agreeing a set of principles for any peace deal. Syria conflict: Turkey and Russia 'agree ceasefire plan'

Turkey's foreign minister says it has agreed with Russia a proposal for a ceasefire in Syria, where they back opposing sides in the civil war.

Mevlut Cavusoglu said a document outlining a political solution to the conflict was also "ready", and that both could be "implemented any time".

His comments came hours after Turkey's state news agency said a ceasefire might start at midnight (22:00 GMT).

A Kremlin spokesman said he could not comment on Anadolu's report.

Poorly, if at all.

It's not designed to work, it's a way of sticking another finger in the Worm's eye - the USA wasn't included in the talks.
