Fed Raises Rates, Boosts Outlook for Borrowing Costs in 2017

Federal Reserve officials raised interest rates for the first time this year and forecast a steeper path for borrowing costs in 2017, saying inflation expectations have increased “considerably” and suggesting the labor market is tightening.

The Federal Open Market Committee cited “realized and expected labor market conditions and inflation” in increasing its benchmark rate a quarter percentage point, according to a statement Wednesday following a two-day meeting in Washington. New projections show central bankers expect three quarter-point rate increases in 2017, up from the two seen in the previous forecasts in September, based on median estimates.

And interest costs to start sucking up more of the federal budget.

and a quick way to destroy the new President's agenda.

From a purely personal standpoint, it's about darned time. It'd be nice to actually put money aside and have it earn interest again.

No kidding.

I'm not a fan of the Fed but when rates are at or near zero there are many losers in the game.

I guess this means the new president should cut taxes and regulations even more to make up for the economic activity lost by the higher cost of money.

Indeed!  What would work even better is to get rid of the Marxist income tax entirely and be done with it!

Well, there are a lot of parties invested in keeping those regulations complicated and onerous that are not bureaucrats.

Think HR Block, any accounting firm you choose to name, those enjoying exemptions from the taxes or regulations, etc.

I prefer to say that the American public wins.
