How much have we already spent on it?
How complete is it?
How necessary is it?
How old and/or outdated is the one currently in use?
What does Trump think is a more reasonable cost?
Where does Trump think costs can be cut?

I wonder if he even knows the true purpose of AF1 or does he think it is just luxury transport?

Congratulations, you've been Trumped.

The entire Right has been Trumped.
Regulating like FDR.
Spending like Obama.
Attacking liberty like Wilson.
Growing government like LBJ.

And those are just the flip flops in under a month before he has even been sworn in.

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/11/16/trump-can-now-loot-millions-of-dollars-from-the-secret-service-with-no-disclosure.html

Quote
For any of the Trump or Pence clans assigned a protective detail due to safety risks— and the rancor of the 2016 vote could well produce many — Secret Service travel on a Trump-owned plane means the agency would need to reimburse the aircraft's owner. In this case, the president.

"So then you have government money going into the pockets of the president and his children," said Brett Kappel, a lawyer who specializes in political finance and ethics at Akerman LLP. The Trump transition team did not respond to email requests seeking comment. The Trump family has also hired private security guards, although it is unclear how Trump's election will affect the extent of private security used. The Secret Service has assumed full authority for protecting the president-elect and vice-president elect, including a new no-fly zone the Federal Aviation Administration has established until Jan. 21 over Trump's Manhattan residence.

Welcome to the kleptocracy.

Donny don't need no stinking Air Force One. He has the even more opulent Trump Shuttle to move him around.

Congratulations, you've been Trumped.

Trump's whole campaign was a massive pander to the reactionaries who don't ask questions.

I'm a label reader and I want to know every ingredient in my snake oil and I want to know what purpose each ingredient serves.

Once he is President, it would be a complete dereliction of duty to fly his own aircraft. Air Force One is not luxury transportation. It is a mobile military command center hardened against EMP and highly defended. Trump may have to forgo the gold plated toilets to fulfill his duty.

This is actually the kind of thing I don't mind.  He's sending a signal to federal contractors that he's going to be a hard-ass in terms of costs and efficiency, which is a perfectly appropriate sentiment for the President to express.  It's just symbolism, but it can still matter.

From Zerohedge:

Politico reported that The Pentagon is looking to replace its aging fleet of Boeing 747-200 aircraft, which will reach the planned 30-year service life in 2017. Officials have said the next Air Force One jets are estimated to begin operations in fiscal 2023. The Air Force expects the planes to have the range to fly between continents and comparable interiors to the current 747, whose features include work and sleeping quarters for the president and first family.

Watching people cry as Boeing stock fell ................................ priceless.

Their sadness and grief will bring me little joy, but sometimes, a little is enough.

How much money do Donald Trump’s Tweets cost investors in companies he attacks?
 By J.D. Rucker

Donald Trump is going to be the President of the United States. It’s for this reason that investors make moves based upon how he Tweets. As completely asinine as that may sound when you think about for more than three seconds, it’s very true. With one Tweet, the President-elect cost investors a great deal of money.

In less than 140 characters, Donald Trump rocked the defense sector. Shares of Lockheed Martin, the target of Trump’s Tweet, closed for the day down 2.5%. They weren’t the only ones hit, though. Other defense sector companies fell sharply, including Engility Holdings (down 7.5%), Northrop Grumman (down 2.7%), and Raytheon (down 1.7%).

There are real Americans with real money invested in these companies. When Trump Tweets, they lose. The worst part of the whole situation is that it does nothing more than inflate his ego. He will be able to go in and work his “magic” by cutting better deals when he’s in office. Today, all this does is hurt people and put the defense sector on the defensive. It’s not the brightest move in the world to take the companies responsible for producing the technology that defends this nation and harm their fiscal standing for the sake or arousing his Twitter troops.

You won’t hear much about the damage he’s doing in mainstream media. The liberals love it. Anything they can do to damage Wall Street is a positive. Anything they can do to damage the defense sector is even better. When he can harm both in a single Tweet, they aren’t going to call him out on it. He’s doing the bidding of the same liberals that he’s supported his entire life.

And he's doing so from an ill-informed or completely IGNORANT perspective... :chairbang:
