When FBI Director James Comey wrote his bombshell letter to Congress on Friday about newly discovered emails that were potentially “pertinent” to the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server, agents had not been able to review any of the material, because the bureau had not yet gotten a search warrant to read them, three government officials who have been briefed on the probe told Yahoo News.

At the time Comey wrote the letter, “he had no idea what was in the content of the emails,” one of the officials said, referring to recently discovered emails that were found on the laptop of disgraced ex-Rep. Anthony Weiner, the estranged husband of top Clinton aide Huma Abedin. Weiner is under investigation for allegedly sending illicit text messages to a 15-year-old girl.

As of Saturday night, the FBI had still not gotten approval from the Justice Department for a warrant that would allow agency officials to read any of the newly discovered Abedin emails, and therefore are still in the dark about whether they include any classified material that the bureau has not already seen.

I am thinking that he is working to get Hillary elected.  Dropped the investigation before.  Now comes out with a letter about  new emails.   They don't even know what is on them.

Just look at all the hype that hit the media and now the fall.  Take everyone up as if there is something major.  Then nothing major no further investigation

If it turns out to be nothing Hillary will take the election.  Smoke and mirrors.

I am not seeing that. No way this helps Hillary. Even if there is nothing there it has already given new life to trump. I believe this guy used to be Republican and was originally a Bush appointee before being picked by Obama for the FBI.

Yep.  So far it's looking very much like Comey did this without any justification in an attempt to influence the election.  An FBI Director trying to influence an election outcome.

Comey jumped the gun and so did Trump.  It is possible that they will not get the warrant and this will become the non story Hillary needed to boost her in the polls.  Sympathy.  They needed solid evidence to make any dent on her.

Is this a matter of a warrant, or just permission with respect to potentially classified materials?  If they had a warrant to search the computer arising out of the Weiner investigation, then generally speaking that may cover other emails they find (somebody who stores their stuff on someone else's computer runs the risk of losing their protected privacy interest).

I’m by all means not a legal expert, but from what I have learned is that search warrants are almost always limited or restricted as to what can be searched and what evidence can be seized. In this particular alleged illegal sexual minor contact investigation, the judge signing the search warrant would probably limit the search of electronic communications to only items of an illegal sexual nature. Neither the investigators nor the warrant signing judge would have any idea that this search would also stumble upon what appears to be unauthorized and illegal emails containing classified information stored on the subject personal devices. Once the investigators executing a search warrant chance upon probable cause evidence that additional crimes beyond the scope of the original search warrant, they would normally present that probable cause in a very immediate request for a search warrant for the investigation of additional criminal activity.

It is not good to read that as of Saturday night, two days after investigators had possibly found that there may be unauthorized storage of classified emails, that the DOJ had not issued a search warrant to the FBI. That looks like the DOJ is trying to stall any further investigation into Clinton’s illegal activity.

Not yet getting the warrant does not mean the FBI has not read these emails. It means they can not use them as evidence in court. Of course they have read the emails.

The fact that Lynch's DOJ is sitting on the FBI warrant request could be nobama's (ValJarret) making sure this drags out longer to let hitlery twist in the wind. Regardless of status of warrant, none of these emails, aside from possible Wikileaks, will be made public before Election Day.

 If DOJ refuses the warrant request, then they are being political and we are in a Constitutional Crisis.
