  • I was a "conspiracy theorist". Now I'm just right.
Wishful thinking isn't a strategy. 3rd party candidates haven't stood a chance since Ross Perot did what he did.  At most they can take votes away from one candidate but they cannot and will not get enough to win.  Why?  Because nobody has any confidence that they can.

Perhaps if one of the 3rd party candidates had significant numbers in the polls it might be worth it, but they don't.   And IF Gary Johnson were to win he is nothing but a pothead socialist pretending to be a libertarian.   He's more dangerous than Trump.
Do you honestly think the MSM, the Republican Party or the democrats (or even the Greens and Libertarians) are going to let any other parties rise to the top if they can help it? Even Libertarians are smearing the Constitution Party (Cody Quirk, especially), in order to try to maintain their position as the largest 'third party', and if they can keep the Constitution Party out of consideration, that gives them an advantage as being the alternative to UberLiberal Greens and Republicrats. But the Constitution Party, with a platform based on an originalist view of the Constitution and getting back to that, by and large either has a Conservative shopping list for a platform, or leaves things for the States to decide (rather than one size fits all federalism).

I don't appreciate being called stupid because I disagree with someone.   And I don't appreciate being called a liar when I call them on it.

Our country is burning down and you folks are rearranging the chairs on the titanic.  I could give a rats behind what most of you think any more.
Nope, we aren't rearranging the deck chairs, we're building rafts.

Because the ones packing the lifeboats have no room for the likes of us. We want to use the Constitution for something besides a museum exhibit or a backdrop.

To be fair, Trump listed a pretty decent first 100 days agenda, including repealing Obamacare right at the time stories were breaking about skyrocketing premiums.

And then Trump blows it by saying he will replace it with TrumpCare.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

You left out the fact that they mandate CFLs and now want to codify *occupancy sensors* in all rooms into law.

How brilliant is this? CFLs degrade rapidly when switched on and off a lot. So, let's mandate their use, THEN create another reg that requires they be switched on and off far more often than usual so they don't last but a tenth as long and create copious toxic waste!

(Don't worry - those busy-bodies will create a law/reg for that toxic waste, too!)

God, I hate government.
I'm still running incandescents. I have a 'stash'. What just gobsmacked me about one of the ridiculous arguments against the incandescent bulb was the ballyhoo about 'waste heat'. At this latitude, in summer we have up to 16 hours of daylight, and don't generate much heat illuminating things. In winter, we have daylight for as little as 8 hours and 21 minutes, when no heat is wasted. Nearest big town: http://www.timeanddate.com/sun/usa/williston

The new LED lights are pretty good, and not as expensive as they used to be.

Here is my thought about the tsunami of women coming forward.
Once Trump bragged about his vulgar behavior the women he had assaulted realized that they weren't the only one and felt they could safely come forward.

Me too.

My eyes are old and bad, and I don't see nearly as well with LED's.

I think we have a stash big enough to last til I'm at least 75 - 80.  ^-^

What difference does it make what she does for a living? If she isn't doing it with him, she has a right not to be molested, whether she's a porn actress or Mother Teresa.

So we should condemn Trump for lack of morals but praise her for her lack of morals.  Got it.

@driftdiver

Wrong. My response was a DIRECT reaction to YOUR response. You trivialized the notion of a Convention of the States with a snarky comment about people's schedules, so I threw snark right back at you.

Then, you call MY response "insults and flaming" after YOU provided the snark FIRST.

MOREOVER, you double-down on your snark by asking why I am not advocating for a Convention of States (after I *just* did, and have been for a long time) and throw out the "vacation plans" snark AGAIN.

You are now exposed as a hypocrite who simply wishes to rabble-rouse for Trump, hoping that will somehow gain him votes. Your response is a simple fraud, as is most of what Trumpettes espouse.

@bolobaby

No I trivialized your response not the idea of a convention.  If people were serious about a convention they would be pushing it, not using it as an afterthought.

My snark is directly focused on the lack of effort by so many to make a positive change.

@driftdiver

I suppose this is why last month they held a mock convention, right? Because they are not caring to make an effort? No one is pushing it?

Oh - I know, I know. It's just a mock convention, and who gives a crap, right?

The problem does not with those of us who see a real solution to this country's woes. The problem is with those who get bamboozled into thinking Trump is going to solve anything *if* he won - which he won't.

So, due to the lack of interest in REAL solutions by the (ahem) common folk, who would rather be taken by a QT-lathered snake oil salesman, we erudite thinkers are stuck railing against the day-to-day stupidity of people who want an "easy fix" brought straight to them by a false messiah.

And that's why our actions are limited to mock conventions: because everyone is too busy looking at the silly monkey to actually care about REAL solutions.
How to lose credibility while posting:
1. Trump is never wrong.
2. Default to the most puerile emoticon you can find. This is especially useful when you can't win an argument on merits.
3. Be falsely ingratiating, completely but politely dismissive without talking to the points, and bring up Hillary whenever the conversation is really about conservatism.
4. When all else fails, remember rule #1 and #2. Emoticons are like the poor man's tweet!

Let me put it this way. If enough of you "winners" voting for LOSERS would vote for someone of decent character and with a less Leftist bent, we'd win!

I did in the primaries.   Not enough others did as well.   Now we have no choice.

Of course we have a choice.  It's not going to change the election ... this time around.  But something needs to change, and the only way for that to happen is to look around for something better than .... those two.

The light bothers my eyes, and like I said, the 'waste' heat isn't wasted. If I'm sleeping, the light is off, I'm under a comforter. If I'm awake, a little extra heat is welcome in the winter.

No choice? There are over 70 political Parties in the US. Of those the Libertarians, Greens, and Constitution Party are the top 3. Look them over, and if you don't like them, vote for someone else. The Libertarians are on the ballot in all 50 states, not sure about the Greens, and the Constitution Party is either on the ballot or a write in that is registered (will be counted) in 47 of the 50. Plenty of room to vote for something else and have it count. McMullen is out there, too. Then look at your local down ticket and vote accordingly. I have a Pubbie for one senator and in the US house, and they are both rated as badly as the Democrat senator from this state (all F's on the conservative scale, and within a few points of each other). There are other options for the two who are up for grabs, and with their track record, I'm still debating voting against them, too.

So we should condemn Trump for lack of morals but praise her for her lack of morals.  Got it.
Her lack of morals didn't involve anyone not consenting to participate.
His admitted lack of morals did, and violated her person and her rights.

I can only assume that missing the distinction here between morals and rights is intentional.

It isn't a question of morals anyway, (nice deflection), it is a question of whether or not she has the right to NOT be touched by anyone she doesn't want to, and his presumption that she did not.

What she does for a living is irrelevant. She could be a promiscuous slut or Mother Teresa, it doesn't matter. NO ONE has the right to be so presumptuous as to grab any part of her she doesn't want them to.

It's straight to the point.
Shows how little this woman, this object, is worth in just 8 short words.

Of course not.

Defense of Trump's perversion on a computer has nothing to do with real life.

If Trump came after any Trumpist's daughter (as he might well do) they would protect their daughter against his assault.

It's other people's daughters that they don't give a rip about.

Great post.

Yes, it is simple.

1. Vote for the candidate that comes close to matching your values and that you can trust to uphold them.
2. Stop looking for someone from the government to help. Stop expecting a white knight from Washington DC to fix your problems and force your solutions.

I have news for you also, the country already is burning down. It has been doing so for a long time. One of the very reasons it is burning down is due to people treating politics like a game or like Santa Claus. People, including those on the Right, started looking for a government 'who is here to help'. They started treating politics like a football game and cheered the letter on the jersey, not the values.

To me, and many others, not accepting the R versus D game, when it has become as vile as it has this election cycle, is doing our part to stop the burning.

People have been saying they are tired of 'establishment games' yet the very game they play is to demand you vote for the party over your values... just hold your nose and vote.. over and over, expecting different results.

Many if not most of us have not changed our values or given those up, on the contrary, we are being consistant. Everything I've been saying about Trump now, William F Buckley warned us about in 2000 and Andrew Breitbart warned us about in 2012. (hell, even Jim Robinson at FR called out the orange con man then).

We are being consistent with that.

Great post.  Well worth reading again.

Good example, because the one time we can find Jesus getting angry wasn't against what he was told were his natural political opponents he would have been told it was his duty to oppose (the Romans) but against those in his own church (which was also the political leadership of the day) who had defiled what it meant. He threw the money changers out of his own house. He cleaned his own house first.
