New Trump Hotels to Dump the Trump Name

   TheTrump name, which is Donald Trump’s primary business asset, is now so toxic that his company is running away from it as fast as possible. Travel and Leisure reports:


Amidst reports that occupancy rates at Trump Hotels have slipped this election season, the company has announced that new brand hotels will no longer bear the Trump name.

The newest line of luxury hotels, geared towards millennials, will be called Scion, the company said.

“We wanted a name that would be a nod to the Trump family and to the tremendous success it has had with its businesses, including Trump Hotels, while allowing for a clear distinction between our luxury and lifestyle brands,” Trump Hotels CEO Eric Danziger said in a statement.

Although Trump Hotels has said the new name has nothing to do with the eponymous businessman’s presidential campaign, empty rooms at the hotels have caused officials “to reduce rates during the peak season,” according to New York Magazine.

The company has experienced genuine difficulty since Trump announced his presidential bid:


Nightly rates at the newly-opened Trump International Hotel in D.C. plummeted below $500 while practically every other five-star property was sold out for the International Monetary Fund conference two weeks ago. And after his remarks about Mexican immigrants, two celebrity chefs backed out of their contracts to open a restaurant in the hotel.

According to Hipmunk, bookings at Trump Hotels plummeted 59 percent during the first half of 2016 and data from Foursquare shows a 17 percent drop in foot traffic at Trump properties since June 2015, when the reality TV star announced his presidential bid.

As predictable as night following day. Quite a few of us called this back at the beginning.

It's the same thing as the Dixie Chicks. Mix politics and business and business loses. You automatically alienate half your potential income. Why would I or anyone  pay money to a person we can't stand when we have a wealth of other options?

People boycott companies for a hell of a lot lesser reasons than politics.

A relative living in the DC area told me people were not too happy that Trump converted the historic post office building into a hotel.  I believe they wanted to preserve the building as an historic landmark and/or  museum. 

That the hotel is failing is probably very sweet to those who opposed it.

Pretty much. For a guy so invested with the whole mindset/culture of 'winning', he really has no grasp of the historical fate of losing presidential candidates. Usually it's obscurity, but in this case, the world as a whole is united against him and his enablers. Left, right, conservative, liberal, media, political types, non political types, religious, faithless, whatever. Obscurity would be heaven. He will be made into the 'the example'.

Normally I'd be very much against that. However he will be out there lying as usual, blaming everyone but himself and the fools that empowered his royal fantasies so I really don't care what happens to his empire. He brought it on himself.

But isn't his TV start up in his son in laws name? I don't know how many people outside the NY/ NJ corridor will know that.

Yup, that same son in law who is the owner of NY Observer newspaper.  He endorsed Bill deBlasio for Mayor.  One .of the prominent reporters for that paper resigned in protest.

No doubt the money people are well aware of the nefarious connections to DT.   American bankers refused to lend him any more money after he went bankrupt and didn't pay them back.

2)
botany :  a piece of a plant that is attached to part of another plant

Trump, 1) born into a rich family.....2) a liberal pretending not to be, but still attached to and part of the liberal (Democrat) New York elitist club, where he obviously feels most comfortable....

as proven recently (at the Al Smith Charity dinner) when he rubbed shoulders among his own kind and even was nice to Hillary when not speaking publicly and 'onstage' at the dais.
