So it’s come to this. Students in college can now sit in safe spaces and color in their coloring books. Why do we even have institutions of higher learning? Just send everyone back to Kindergarten.

The College Fix reports:

Colleges turn to coloring books to de-stress students

It works, so there is that. It does concern me though, and not for the "safe space" reasons.

Art therapy is a known and respected method of dealing with stress and is used with a lot of success by PTSD sufferers.  Colouring books focus in on the meditational aspect, without using much in the way of creativity - both parts of which are needed for lasting therapy.

It's a bandage. A temporary fix to mask the problem, rather than one which seeks to remove the problem completely.

That explains why Trumps speeches are written in Crayon.

Damn, I remember when the safe spaces were the student union and stress was dealt with by the imbibing of alcoholic beverages. What sorry ass generation the liberals have incubated.

It wasn't all that long ago when being a "college man" was a high compliment to your abilities and intellect.

Now it's just high school away from home.

Oh poop. When I was in college and grad school I worked 3 jobs went full time and made Dean's list almost every semester. I was on Student Government, Editor of the Lit Mag, worked on the student newspaper. I worked full time in the Writing Lab and was a peer tutor.

If I wanted to de stress, I'd have a cup of coffee or tea in the student union.

I don't understand these special snowflakes. I graduated and I did it without any student loans. Just dang hard work.

But I didn't go anywhere for spring break.

Ditto that, Freya. As an undergrad I worked 20 hours a week in the school cafeteria, competed in intramural sports and a couple of intercollegiate sports teams, and earned a 4.0 for six of my eight semesters of college. I "de-stressed" by listening to music, going to the gym, working out and playing basketball.

Ummm. Instead of 40 could it be 39? Joke intended.
