The Antarctic Peninsula is cooling in response to the shrinking ozone hole and a changing wind pattern, according to a new study published in the journal Nature.

The study, undertaken by the British Antarctic Survey, concludes that changing wind patterns pushed warm water away from Antarctica, therefore cooling the northern-most part of the continent.

“The ozone hole, sea-ice and westerly winds have been significant in influencing regional climate change in recent years,” John Turner, lead author of the study, stated in the report.

Despite this cooling trend, scientists say global warming has not necessarily ended.

The  Goddard Space Flight Center scientists that first observed the growing ozone hole and assigned the cause as free radical chlorine atoms from the breakdown of CFCs in the upper atmosphere said that even if CFC release into the atmosphere ended immediately (  that was 25 years ago) that the ozone depletion would continue to increase for a least 50 years.

Ten years later, the ozone hole shrunk which was heralded as a success for the efforts that partially banned CFC production. Now 25 years later we have another story where the ozone hole is shrinking early and the south pole is cooler than expected but stay alarmed, global warming is still a crisis.

Climate science is so ideology driven that truth is very slippery.

I miss the days when you could spray your pits with a good old chlorofluorocarbon propelled anti-perspirant.
