Parliament may call a do-over vote. Brexit may not last long.

The prospect of holding a second EU referendum could be debated in Parliament in coming weeks after a petition topped the 100,000 target within hours of the result being declared.

It was so popular that the Government petition website hosting the motion crashed this morning.

The petition demands the Government re-stage the referendum because the winning vote for Leave was less than 60 per cent and was based on a turnout of less than 75 per cent.

Apparently they're legally obligated to consider it if they get over 100,000 signatures - they have way more. I was reading interviews with people who said they were had just voted Leave to "make a statement" and they hadn't really expected it to happen.

What this should do, however, is give the UK some clout to renegotiate things. An economic union is not a bad idea, and has led to greater prosperity,  but it went from that to a giant Belgian - German bureaucracy that wanted to control every aspect of the lives of the individual member countries.

If BRexit had been defeated you can be assured there'd be no do-over

The Brexit turnout was one of the highest in history.

True.

Any petition to the Crown which gains more than 100,000 signatures MUST be debated in Parliament within 6 weeks of the petition being received, irrespective of it's merits, and the results of the debate presented to Her Majesty for due consideration. Failure to do so, except in time of war, is one of the few automatic triggers for dissolving Parliament and holding a general election.

It's why they debated banning Trump, remember? Got over 100,000 signatures.

The Left has launched a very effective buyer's remorse campaign.

Yes.  Conservatives tend to sit on their butts and whine, but not get out and work hard at activism.  Talk a good game, but when it comes down to it, it's leftists who work to get things won.

Uh..... This is not how it works. Also a petition does not make it happen. It beings it up for a debate, a very short one that dismisses the petition. If there was a second vote the country and its government would collapse as the injustice of it would cause such revolt. People need to accept democracy has spoken. One of the fear tactics of remain was the lack of human rights and a voice of the people if we left. However now the remain voters want to scrap the voice of the majority and ban old people from voting. Democracy is great when you get what you want, but everyone is quick to dismiss it when they don't.
