Worldview Formation / Anthropology

This is not a religion board. Please read the following carefully.

“We hold these truths.... How many Americans in 2016 can complete the sentence that this phrase begins? Of course, the sentence introduces the justification for the Declaration of Independence. Today, another question arises.

What was a self evident truth in 1776? What is it in 2016? Why is this important?

Here's the forum to discuss it.

Mission

Discussion of ideas and beliefs that influence world views and how those wordviews impact the culture.       Abstract ideas will be proven by real world historical case studies to measure validity.       Examples include 'Fall of the Roman Empire' or 'Secular Cycles' by Nefedov.

Content

⦁       Sources should be more academic and factual, rather than       polemical and speculative. (Examples below)  Sectarinism (avoid comparing types of Christianity or Judaism ) and apologetics (Acrimonious debates 'proving' the existence or non-existence of God). should have no place.

More on sectarianism: An article that mentions multiple religious / spiritual traditions and asserts one is better than the other may be posted, only if those assertions

Support a larger point and
Are not the main focus of the article.

Example: G.K. Chesterton and Modernity
http://www.theimaginativeconservative.org/2014/01/g-k-chesterton-modernity.html

⦁       Philosophers and wise men, from the beginning, have grappled with humanity's innate longing for the transcendent. Each set of ideas can be studied to learn how they exerted influence where they were accepted. It can also be discussed how the corruption and/or rejection of those ideas influenced the culture.

Operational Modus Operandi

Simple news of the day or the latest scandal should be posted elsewhere. However, an acceptable thread could begin with such, if it then proceeds to placing the matter into a wider context than the mere facts of the matter; or if the poster wishes to share his or her own thoughts (within the boundaries) for discussion.

Phrases to use and pitfalls to avoid

Avoid:  "You think...." or "Therefore, you must believe...." Better: "Do you think?" or "Are you saying?" or, "Wouldn't that idea then lead to....."
