"One issue was the center of attention as the world’s top executives and members of the Republican establishment flew to a private island resort over the weekend to attend the American Enterprise Institute’s annual World Forum, according to The Huffington Post.

The “main topic”?

Discovering a way to stop Republican front-runner Donald Trump, the liberal website reported, citing sources familiar with the meeting.

According to The Huffington Post, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Google co-founder Larry Page, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.) and Karl Rove were all attendees of the World Forum — an annual event hosted on Sea Island which is located off the coast of Georgia.

“A specter was haunting the World Forum–the specter of Donald Trump,” Bill Kristol, also an attendee, wrote in an email, according to The Huffington Post. “There was much unhappiness about his emergence, a good deal of talk, some of it insightful and thoughtful, about why he’s done so well, and many expressions of hope that he would be defeated.”

“The key task now, to once again paraphrase Karl Marx, is less to understand Trump than to stop him,” Kristol reportedly added.

The report said that Rove delivered a presentation on focus group findings that suggested Trump’s greater weakness was whether voters considered him presidential."

If these same six individuals would simply drop out of politics, we could even have a chance at saving our Republic.

Tim Cook, Elon Musk, and Larry Page were at a private event where the 'main topic' was stopping Trump

Apple CEO Tim Cook, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Alphabet CEO Larry Page, and Napster creator Sean Parker all attended an exclusive event where the "main topic" was preventing Donald Trump from getting the Republican nomination for president, reports The Huffington Post.

That event, the American Enterprise Institute's annual World Forum, is a conference hosted on a private island off the coast of Georgia.

In addition to those tech leaders, attendees this year included Republican Party leaders like Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, former presidential adviser Karl Rove, and House Speaker Paul Ryan.

The forum is closed to the press, so it's not clear to what degree the tech leaders actually discussed Trump, whose controversial bid for the Republican nomination in the general election has alienated many in the party.

The report also says that Cook got into a debate with Republican Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas on the subject of Apple's ongoing battle with the FBI and cellphone encryption. According to the report, Cotton was "hostile" toward Cook in support of the FBI to the point where onlookers were "a little uncomfortable."

Still, as The Huffington Post reports, conservative political commentator Bill Kristol sent an e-mail dispatch from the event identifying Trump as "a specter" haunting the World Forum. Notably, Rove reportedly presented findings from a focus group suggesting that the public doesn't see Trump as "presidential."

Business leaders attend events like this all the time, so it's dangerous to assume their political leanings from their presence — Cook may well have made the trip just to get in to those kinds of arguments. But it certainly shows the political weight that Silicon Valley's top leaders command.

Rove's presentation to group:

"Fellows, we need just one more round of fundraising, and I can handle that. If we can get about $50,000,000 I think the ads will blow Trump off his saddle, and make way for our guy."

* Not mentioned is that Rove and those like him get commissions on funds raised, and again on ads placed. So he has a vested financial interest in taking this to the limit, to the bitter end.

Report: GOP Leaders Met With Elon Musk, Tim Cook To Discuss Stopping Trump

Apple CEO Tim Cook, Tesla CEO Elon Musk and several other tech titans held a private retreat with GOP leaders over the weekend where the main topic was how to stop Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump, the Huffington Post reports.

The meeting was held at Sea Island, Ga., the site of the American Enterprise Institute’s World Forum. GOP figures at the gathering reportedly included Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell , House Speaker Paul Ryan , and Karl Rove. Sens. Tom Cotton , Rob Portman , Tim Scott , Cory Gardner and Ben Sasse (who has already said he would not back Trump in the general election) where also present, while House representation included Reps. Cathy McMorris Rodgers , Tom Price , Kevin Brady , and Fred Upton , among others.

Other tech figures who reportedly attended the meeting included Google co-founder Larry Page and Napster founder Sean Parker.

The whole affair was off the record and closed to the press, so exactly what happened and what viewpoints were expressed is unclear. But according to HuffPo, the primary topic of conversation was Trump’s rise, what caused it and what, if anything, might undermine him. One highlight of the event was a presentation by Rove, who reportedly argued Trump’s biggest political weakness is the public’s difficulty viewing him as a “presidential” figure.

While Silicon Valley is generally known as a liberal place, there may be ample reason for Republicans and tech leaders to form a common cause against Trump. While Republicans fear Trump is hijacking and derailing the party and dooming them in November, tech bosses are menaced by Trump’s rhetoric on trade and his promise to cut down on the number of H-1B visas for skilled immigrant workers.

Sometimes the attendees clashed with one another, though. Notably, Cotton allegedly became “hostile” towards Cook when discussing Apple’s battle with the FBI about decrypting cell phones.
