Iraqi troops and pro-government militias are planning to retake the town of Ramadi from the Islamic State and Lt. Col. Oliver North has warned the mission would be a “disaster”.
He appeared on Fox News’ “On The Record” and told host Greta Van Susteren that if Iranian backed Shiite Muslim forces go into the Sunni city of Ramadi it would be “devastating.”
“It would be a bloodbath of biblical proportions if those militias, those Shiite militias supported by Iran, go into Ramadi,” he said.
U.S. dropped the ball by not supporting Sunni opposition to ISIS, North explained.
“You’re about to see – if it actually takes place – a battle that is going to create enormous civilian casualties, because that’s the way the Iranians fight,” North said. “And it’s going to be devastating.”
