Trey Gowdy: Clinton Emails Name CIA Source, Push Action in Libya

Hillary Clinton's confidant Sidney Blumenthal names a CIA source and pushes action in Libya, partly to promote business interests, Trey Gowdy says in a letter about new emails his committee plans to release.

The House Benghazi Select Committee plans to release the emails from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton prior to her testimony later this month.

Gowdy, the Republican chairman of the committee, sent a scathing 13-page letter to ranking member Elijah Cummings, a Democrat, on Wednesday, accusing Cummings of abandonong the normal "cordial relationship" between the members of the committee and instead writing letters "dripping with vitriol and baseless allegations."

The committee's work is not partisan, as Democrats claim, Gowdy says, and show serious breaches of Clinton's use of a private, unsecured email server while she was with the State Department.

Gowdy quotes extensively from the emails, saying that Blumenthal names a CIA source in one and that Clinton forwarded the email. That contradicts Clinton's claims that no classified information was contained in them, Gowdy said.

Blumenthal also send Clinton multiple emails about Libya, even though he had been barred by the White House from being hired by the State Department and said he wasn't an expert on the country.

Blumenthal urged military action in Libya to help President Barack Obama's re-election chances, but also to aid Osprey Global Solutions, a company seeking private contracts in post-war Libya, Gowdy suggests.

Gowdy said the emails will be available before Clinton testifies before the Benghazi Committee on October 22.

"The revelations in these new emails raise the likelihood that the Committee will need to bring back Sidney Blumenthal to reopen his deposition," Gowdy wrote.
