A 28-year-old man was arrested in the stabbing of a U.S. airman hailed as a hero for helping thwart a European terror attack, police in California's capital said on Wednesday.
Airman 1st Class Spencer Stone was knifed three times in the torso on October 8 in a fight near a bar in Sacramento, shortly after nightclub patrons applauded the 23-year-old for his role in tackling a gunman with ties to radical Islam on a Paris-bound passenger train in August.
James Tran of unincorporated Sacramento County was arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide, police Chief Sam Somers Jr. said at a news conference.
A number of others were questioned in the attack but none has been arrested, he said. Police would not say how many others were questioned.
Investigators have said the assault had nothing to do with the European terror plot and involved an alcohol-fueled fight between two groups in a popular nightclub district.
They have not said what led to the argument but that there is no indication the assailants knew who Stone was. ...
