Walthamstow Central fight: police called to break up huge riot outside Tube station

Police have been called to break up a huge riot outside Walthamstow Central Tube station.

Groups of teenagers were seen wrestling in Hoe Street just after 5pm today.

Photographs shared on social media showed the shocking scenes as police lined the streets.

It is not yet known if anyone was seriously injured in the fight.

Gavin Rugg, an IT consultant who witnessed the chaos, said he saw about 15 men fighting in Hoe Street, and several other smaller clashes between groups of teenagers nearby.


He told the Standard: "I just came out of Walthamstow Central station and they mentioned there had been a police incident.

"There were some guys wearing hoodies who were facing off with police

"It looked like they were arresting someone.

"I was surprised - I have only moved to the area a couple of months ago from Stockwell and I have never seen anything like this before."

Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy called for people to stay clear of the area.

Judging from the photos, I'd say yeah, pretty much.

Twitter user Will Stroude posted this picture with the caption: 'Pieces of weave strewn across Hoe Street. I can't even.' The picture apparently shows hair extensions that were yanked out during the brawl
