U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who faces accusations of desertion for leaving his Afghanistan post in 2009 and ultimately landing in the hands of the terrorist Taliban enemy, has now been hit with a new charge – “misbehavior before the enemy.”
And that seldom-tapped charge, which hasn’t been used since World War II, could put Bergdahl in prison for life, various media reported.

The full charge is “misbehavior before the enemy by endangering the safety command, unit or place,” the Army said in a statement. It also “alleges that Bergdahl endangered the safety of troops at Observation Post Mest in Paktika Province by walking away and causing the military to launch ‘search and recovery operations,’” USA Today reported.
Bergdahl’s desertion charge, by itself, carries a five-year sentence. But the added charges could put him behind bars for life.
Bergdahl’s former military colleagues have alleged he didn’t just innocently wander from camp, but rather purposely deserted, and in doing so, put others at risk.
