US President Barack Obama on Tuesday condemned African leaders who refuse to give up power at the end of their terms in office, as he made the first address to the African Union (AU) by a US leader. "Africa's democratic progress is at risk when leaders refuse to step aside when their terms end," Obama said in a speech at the AU's headquarters in the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa. "No one should be president for life," he told the assembled African leaders, adding that he himself was looking forward to handing over to his successor at the end of his second term in November 2016.

Yet just yesterday he said he could win a 3rd term.

I believe that was part of this speech. He said it to make a point. "I could, but also I can't, because that's the law."
