American Public Schools; from Greatness to Alarming Decline

Most Americans are aware that congressional legislation and federal court decisions, as well as actions taken by our “ political leaders “ have had profound impact on our nation’s public schools, both good and bad.   Examples of forward movement include the Morrill Act (1862) which established public land-grant universities; the Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education (1954) eliminated racial segregation in American schools.   Actions taken more recently have a much darker side; the Elementary and Secondary Education Act by Congress (1965) used massive amounts of federal tax money as a “ carrot “ to compel local and state school systems to allow federal intrusion and intervention, with “ social engineering and left-wing indoctrination “ as the “ stick “.

The Supreme Court in Swann v. Charlotte-Mecklenberg Schools (1970) permanently legalized forced crosstown busing to create “ artificial racial balance “ to desegregate schools, which the Brown decision in 1954 had never intended. The congressional “ No Child Left Behind “ Act (2002) and Barack Obama’s “ Race to the Top “Programs have only served to subject students, parents and teachers to massive standardized testing, school grading “ report cards “ based upon highly questionable criteria and standards, and to dehumanize faculty members by reducing their historical role as professional educators into that of lowly “ semi-skilled technicians “ using a “ common core “ dumbed-down curriculum leaving no room for professional discretion or imaginative, creative teaching.

It is much less likely however, that most Americans are aware of the evil and destructive potential for our public schools and their children, that the “ Supreme Court “ imposed on the entire nation on June 26, 2015.   In the Obergefell v. Hodges case, a slim 5-4 vote by nine justices have tyrannically erased at least 6,000 years of human history and mandated the legalization of homosexual marriage in all 50 states.   In what millions of Americans believe was the worst judicial ruling in American history since Dred Scott (1857) was ruled permanently a slave, five justices have laid the groundwork for the systematic destruction of our First Amendment rights to Freedom of Religion, Freedom of Expression and Freedom of Association.   These freedoms are in grave danger of being lost in nearly all basic American institutions, as homosexual activist continue their lustful and perverted obsession with the “ celebration and elevation “ of their lifestyle, as not only legal, but “normal and wonderful. “

The tyrannical “end game” for homosexual activists regarding American public schools, is a pervasive saturation of the school curriculum, classroom teaching, co-curricular activities, and school policies with pro-homosexual indoctrination that begins in elementary schools with very young children.   Young children and adolescents in 15,000 public school districts in all 50 states will be forced by federal legislation and regulations stemming from the homosexual marriage legalization in Obergefell v. Hodges, to submit to being taught that “ gay marriage”

Is at least equal to “ traditional marriage “; that having “ two daddies or two mommies is just as normal and healthy as having a father and a mother “; that when you are a child growing up, “ you have choices regarding your sexual preferences, (with homosexuality being a fine choice), as well as choices regarding your gender identity (choosing the opposite gender is also a fine choice).   All these blatantly anti-family, anti-Christian, and diabolically harmful to the welfare of impressionable children, will be forced upon families without the permission or approval of parents or taxpayers. Moreover, this writer, an experienced career educator and behavioral scientist, predicts that LGBT students, faculty and activists on public school campuses will exhibit overt homosexual and transgender behaviors, and will openly flaunt their supposed “ right “ to do so.

American public schools enjoy a 300 year legacy of solid academic rigor, the honored transmittal of the legacies of American ideals, successes and exceptionalism, and the teaching of morality and ethical conduct based upon the Judeo-Christian Biblical Scriptures.   America was founded as a Christian nation, and the earliest public schools were often based upon educating children in the ways of our Lord, lest they be tempted by that “ old deluder, Satan.”

In several states, in fact, the schools were legally established by “ Old Deluder Satan “ laws.

Schoolchildren were taught by diligent teachers of high integrity and moral character, in reading, writing, arithmetic, morality, and Bible reading.   And when possible, science, history and the classics were included.   When as a new nation in 1787, the Congress enacted the Northwest Ordiance for governing territory that today is our Midwest, the language in the act included, “ education shall forever be encouraged“.

As the new United States of America expanded westward in the 19th Century, eventually to the Pacific Coast, public schools, usually one-room schoolhouses, followed the building of the new towns on the frontier.   As the population grew rapidly, expanded by tens of millions of new immigrants eager to assimilate into Americans, and the large cities grew in size alongside the Industrial Revolution in the late 19th Century, schools and school districts grew steadily larger, bringing into necessity a leadership bureaucracy and highly educated and specialized teachers for advanced academic studies in secondary schools. Both native-born and the eager immigrants arriving at places like Ellis Island, benefitted and prospered from exposure to the American public school experience.   The central mission and basic model for public education as late as the early 20th Century, remained “ academic study, moral and ethical training in the Christian tradition, and the unapologetic intergenerational transmittal of the exceptionalism and greatness of America.   Thus public education was, at least until a century ago, a primary driving force in the creation of the single greatest nation this world has ever known.

About a century ago, in the early 20th Century, men and women under the influence of dark and evil forces began to destroy the American Education system that was the envy of the world as recently as 1965. About 50 years ago, circa 1965, this destructive process was accelerated; the combination of Secular Humanism, Marxism and Socialism, Saul Alinsky-style community agitation, and the failure of educators to maintain discipline and accountability respective to students and school staff, brought our schools to the edge of darkness in the late 20th Century.   Today the vast majority of public schools, most in urban and suburban areas, were already financially, academically and morally bankrupt by the 1990s.   In the current year 2015, marked a week ago by the “ homosexual coup de grace “ delivered by our               “ Supreme Court “, 25 years of relentless assaults on America by homosexual activists and their allies, the “ homosexual and LGBT ideology is about to swamp the halls of our schools, putting the complete destruction of public education into “ overdrive “.
