Police today released a CCTV image of a man they wish to speak to over a string of armed robberies at London convenience stores.

Detectives said £10,000 has been stolen during 13 raids in which a robber wielding a black semi-automatic handgun demanded cash from tills.

In one terrifying robbery, a female staff member was grabbed by her throat and threatened with a gun at a Nisa local store in Southwark.

During at least two of the raids, the man was accompanied by a younger white male, who it is believed may be a teenager.

A spokesman for the Met said: "The male is described as of possible Southern European or Asian appearance, 25 to 30 years old, of thin build and in excess of 6ft 3ins tall.

"He has a British accent and often indicates that he wishes to buy an item before producing a black semi-automatic handgun and demanding cash from the till. The item to be purchased is invariably left behind when he makes off with the contents of the till."

The majority of the raids have been carried out in Southwark, but the man is also wanted for questioning in connection with robberies in Islington, Camden and Kensington and Chelsea during the course of the year.

Detective Sergeant Andy McGuire, of the MPS Flying Squad, said: "We are determined to identify this man before he can commit any further offences. This man is not afraid to use violence and has terrified his victims, threatening them with a handgun.
