Dalai Lama: Unfair to associate terrorism with Islam

Dalai LamaTerrorism should not be associated with Islam, says the Dalai Lama, because all Muslims are “neither terrorist nor its sponsorer.” Sponsorer? Anyway, the Dalai Lama is right that all Muslims are neither terrorists nor “sponsorers” of terrorism, but he says nothing about the texts and teachings of Islam. What if they contain exhortations to “slay them wherever you find them” Qur’an 2:191; 4:89; 9:5) and “strike terror into the hearts of the enemies of Allah” (Qur’an 8:60)? Would it be unfair to associate terrorism with Islam in that case? The Dalai Lama doesn’t say.

“Unfair to associate terrorism with Islam: Dalai Lama,” PTI, February 1, 2015:

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Sunday said that though terrorism has emerged as a global problem it should not be associated with Islam as all “Muslims were neither terrorist nor its sponsorer [sic]”.

Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama on Sunday said that though terrorism has emerged as a global problem it should not be associated with Islam as all “Muslims were neither terrorist nor its sponsorer [sic]”.

“Though terrorism might have emerged as a global problem, it was unfair to associate it with Islam as all Muslims were neither terrorist nor its sponsorer [sic],” he said here while addressing followers from 27 countries. He appealed to people to take resolve to message of peace and brotherhood given by Lord Buddha. Remembering Mahatma Gandhi, he said that end of terrorism is necessary for world peace.
