After Riding in Rose Parade, Wounded Army Veteran Gets Free Home

 The Virginian-Pilot | Jan 02, 2015 | by Scott Daugherty

A retired Army staff sergeant thought he rode in Thursday's 126th Rose Parade to represent Americans who had served honorably in the military.

But Dominic Perrotte III, a Purple Heart recipient who served two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, also got the keys to a new, free house in Hampton.

Wells Fargo & Company and the Military Warriors Support Foundation surprised Perrotte with a mortgage-free home, according to a news release.

"Like many Americans, our heroes have a desire to own a home," said Lt. Gen. Leroy Sisco, founder and CEO, Military Warriors Support Foundation, in the release. "But with the battle injuries they have, there can be obstacles to making that a reality."

According to another release, Perrotte served nine years in the Army. He was injured in Baghdad when his vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb while he served on a recovery unit for a combat repair team. He and two other soldiers were wounded, but remained on the battlefield for 30 hours before being evacuated.

Perrotte's move to the peninsula will let him, his wife and their son live closer to family and friends, a release said. Wells Fargo and the Military Warriors Support Foundation began working together in 2012, the release said. Since 2013, Wells Fargo has donated nearly 200 properties valued at more than $30 million.

Veterans interested in the Homes 4 Wounded Heroes program should visit the Military Warriors Support Foundation website for more details at www.militarywarriors.org.
